Molly Davis

For as long as Davis can remember, having a brush in her hand gave her the greatest pleasure she’s ever known. She paints for the sheer joy of expressing the many subtle changes she sees in the light at sunrise and sunset, and the multitude of colors she finds in nature that constantly provoke her to interpret them in paint.
“The beauty of the simple everyday things in life constantly inspires me,” she explains. “Just as Van Gough painted his shoes and bedroom, and Rembrandt painted a side of beef, they are priceless works of art today despite their odd subject matter. One of my favorite paintings is of a cement plant at night, its glowing lights burning into the darkness.”
Davis generally works in watercolor and oil, with about half of the time spent painting outdoors. Painting in nature revitalizes her. Because the light changes from one section of the country to the next, she takes annual trips across the United States and abroad to study and paint.
Her passion for painting outdoors led to a two-year study of a private open lands and wildlife area with the permission from the City of Boulder Open Space Program. The money from the sale of the resulting paintings went to support the Birds of Prey Rehabilitation Center and City of Boulder Open Space.
Davis has painted professionally since 1992 and owned her own design and PR firm prior to her career in art. She’s received numerous awards including the Award of Excellence at the 2004 Arts in the Parks competition, the 2004 Rocky Mountain Watercolor Media Show, and the 2004 Texas Watercolor Society exhibition.
