Gerald Balciar
Gerald Balciar’s fascination with animals stems from his early childhood days amid the dairy farms and North woods of Wisconsin. He spent many years working in the field of taxidermy, a job which gave him extraordinary understanding of animal anatomy. Today, he is nationally renowned for his strong, yet lyrical sculptural statements, both in bronze and marble. Gerald is consummate artist, involved in all facets of bronze making, from making his own molds to the welding and final application of the patina. His small-scale works as well as heroic and monumental sculptures are in private and corporate collection across the country. The winner of the 1985 Prix De West Purchase Award, Gerald is a Fellow of the National Sculpture Society and a member of the Society of Animal Artists, Allied Artists of America and the Northwest Rendezvous Group. To date, he has won ten awards from the National Sculpture Society and six awards from Allied Artists of America.
