Andrea Kemp began painting seriously at the age of 15 while still living at home with her family in Glenwood Springs, Colorado. During her high school years she experienced a once in a lifetime opportunity studying with nationally acclaimed painter, Daniel Sprick. “Not only did this provide a life changing foundation for my painting and drawing, his disciplined approach set a great example for me,” Kemp says. After graduating high school she went on to study at the Lyme Academy of Fine Arts for two years. She finished her Bachelor's Degree in Fine Arts at the University of Utah in 2002.
Kemp returned to Colorado where she now lives, paints in her studio, works on
commissions. She also teaches at Colorado Mountain College and the Art Students
League of Denver and loves the challenge of working with students: “I find
that teaching brings more clarity to my own work.”
“The inspiration for my paintings comes from all around. Sometimes it can be as simple as a color, other times it can be the way two people are interacting. Whatever it might be, I use it as a building block for my work and create an environment that will compliment, emphasize, or perhaps downplay chosen elements.”
Kemp is represented by Saks Galleries in Denver and Keating Fine Art in Basalt, Colorado.
