Teri Gortmaker Biography
Teri grew up on a farm in south east Texas. In 1967, she came to Colorado to attend CU receiving her BA in 1970 and has been married to the same great guy since 1971. When her youngest daughter started school she bought and worked her way through Betty Edwards book Drawing on the Right Side of the Brain. She loved the process so much she has been drawing and painting ever since. She still has that original folder.
"My career as an artist has suffered from blank spaces over the years, as often happens with mothers, wives, and women in general. But I have always found my way back to painting. I continue to take classes from artists I admire because there is always more to learn and a higher level to achieve."
She has been a signature member of New York City’s Pastel Society of America since 1993, won awards and been juried into the exhibitions of Salmagundi Artists, N.Y., Knickerbocker Artists, N.Y. International Association of Pastel Artists, and Scottsdale Artists School ‘Best and Brightest", among others. In January 2011, she is one of four artists featured in the Pastel Journal's, "Painting the American Landscape".
